NARI Director recognised for dedication to ageing research

Director of the National Ageing Research Institute Professor Briony Dow has been recognised by the Australian Association of Gerontology (AAG) for her ongoing dedication to ageing and aged care research, at the 2022 AAG Conference.

Dow has spent almost a decade as Chair at the helm of the AAG Collaborating Research Centres — a coalition of 17 universities and institutes across Australia focused on research delivering better outcomes for older people.

At present, there are over 4.2 million Australians aged 65 and older, making up 16% of the population. With this figure projected to increase, Dow said dedicated research across a broad spectrum of ageing and aged care fields is more important than ever.

“Growing older is a luxury not all are afforded, and it’s vital that we are able to take care of ourselves and those we love as we age,” Dow said.

“Every day there are advancements and discoveries being made, and projects being developed, which will have tangible impacts on the lives of older people, helping them to age well.

“I’m immensely proud of the work being done both at NARI, and by the Collaborating Research Centres at large.”
