AdPha partners with Aged Care Onsite Pharmacist provider
To further support pharmacists working in aged care, Advanced Pharmacy Australia (AdPha) has partnered with Aged Care Onsite Pharmacist (ACOP) provider Choice Chemist/Choice Aged Care and launched a Credentialed Pharmacists Specialty Practice Group (SPG).
Through the partnership, more than 100 Choice pharmacists will add their experience and expertise to the growing Specialty Practice program, with AdPha also announcing a further three new SPGs — Precision Medicine, Gastroenterology, and Anticoagulation Stewardship.
“Safe and appropriate medicine use in aged care was a key finding of the Aged Care Royal Commission — and with new funding to embed pharmacists onsite, we must ensure they are equipped to deliver the best possible care for older Australians,” AdPha Chief Executive Kristin Michaels said.
“AdPha is proud to offer unique structures to provide that support, and we’re pleased to partner with Australia’s leading ACOP provider — Choice Aged Care — to realise the new Credentialed Pharmacists SPG, also bolstering our existing Transitions of Care and Primary Care SPG and Geriatric Medicine SPG with new members in the process.
“Specialisation is crucial to the ongoing expansion of pharmacy practice,” Michaels added. “AdPha’s Specialty Practice is Australia’s meeting place for practitioners working in a growing number of specialty settings, and today’s increase to 37 SPGs shows the vibrancy and diversity at this leading edge of pharmacy care.”
On the partnership, Choice Chemist’s Michael Bonner said it will lift standards across the sector. “AdPha sets the national benchmark for clinical pharmacy,” Michaels said. “Through this agreement we’ll integrate its landmark standards into our Pharmacy Care Academy Australia training programs and future workforce initiatives.”
