St Bart's receives $30m investment for new 80-bed aged care home
The Australian Government is investing $30 million to help St Bartholomew’s House Inc (St Bart’s) build an 80-bed East Perth aged care home for older Australians who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Combined with a $16 million contribution from St Bart’s, the $46 million aged care home will be on Brown Street and feature:
- 80 single ensuite rooms across seven levels;
- male and female residents on dedicated floors;
- onsite access to clinical and allied health professionals; and
- culturally inclusive spaces, including a yarning circle and outdoor areas.
Funded through the Aged Care Capital Assistance Program (ACCAP), this announcement marks the ninth specialist aged care project for older people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to be funded by ACCAP nationally, and brings the total number of projects funded to 146 — providing a total of $651 million in infrastructure grants to increase access to quality aged care services for older Australians who have specialised needs or live outside of major cities.
“Every older Western Australian deserves to age with dignity in a safe and caring place that they can be proud to call home,” said Sam Rae, Australia’s Minister for Aged Care and Seniors. “This announcement will allow St Bart’s to deliver even more specialised care to those that need it most in Perth.”
