Council shines light on seniors club for Aged Care Employee Day

Cumberland City Council celebrated the success of its Seniors & Disability Services team’s Seniors Club Cumberland project for Aged Care Employee Day on 7 August. Being one of eight New South Wales councils to, in January 2025, be awarded funding through the NSW Government’s Connecting Seniors Grant Program 2025, the $30,000 grant saw the launch of Seniors Club Cumberland in March 2025 — offering a series of free community programs designed to reduce social isolation and foster meaningful connections among Cumberland seniors.
With 100 participants engaging across four local government area locations, each group meets on a set day each month — the project’s objectives being to connect seniors, reduce isolation and foster lasting social bonds. In December 2025, a final celebration event will bring together all participants to celebrate the achievements of the program and the friendships formed over the year. Cumberland Mayor Ola Hamed conveyed pride in the Seniors & Disability Services team, for contributions that are uplifting the community.
“Our Seniors & Disability Services team plays an essential role in fostering a sense of belonging and support within our community,” Hamed said. “The success of the Seniors Club Cumberland project is a testament to their unwavering dedication to improving the lives of our seniors. As a council, we are proud to witness the powerful impact these programs have in reducing isolation, building connections, and empowering our older residents to live their best life. This Aged Care Employee Day, we celebrate their tireless efforts and the incredible difference they make every day.”
